At the heart of Brussels' Pentagon, the Dansaert district is set to gradually reconnect the five blocks of the Rempart des Moines, which were disrupted in the 1960s. The competition brief was clear : a complete overhaul of the buildings on the site. This condition necessitated a full reconfiguration of the area and, given its scale, an alteration of the district's urban morphology.
The project consists of 340 housing units, divided into three distinct typologies : a classic curtain-court island with a generous green core at the center of the site; a denser, open-plan island with patios in the southern section; and a bow-shaped building to the north that establishes a direct relationship with Square Jacques Brel. The arrangement and alignment of these blocks shape a central trapezoidal public space, encompassing three key elements: the pre-existing Institut Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin, a sports hall, and a pavilion dedicated to community facilities. In this way, the architecture reestablishes a morphology that is consistent with its surrounding context.
The project was selected following a tender process led by Logement Bruxellois and the Régie Foncière de la Ville de Bruxelles. The TEAM 5+ consortium includes architects MDW Architecture and LAN Paris, landscape and urban planners COLOCO, and engineering consultants GREISCH and MATRICIEL
