The inhabitants of this site, near the Dieweg cemetery, have a simple demand, which constitutes a recurring architectural exercise: the construction of an extension for their single-family home. The site is elevated above the street, forming a slight rise, and the 19th-century house on it is unique for having three facades. Here, the garden curves around the building, bordering its long south-facing facade, then widens and extends deep into the heart of the block. An old brick wall surrounds the property. We follow this wall as a guide, positioning two light, transparent volumes perpendicular to it, leaning against the house. The first volume extends the existing vestibule and serves as an entrance porch. The second, larger volume houses the dining room and living room. A patio grows between these two volumes, like an outdoor room, and becomes the house's new center of gravity. Finally, a more massive volume is formed by the extension of the brick wall, which turns in on itself to create space.

The choice of lightweight architecture makes this distinction possible without obstructing the views of the garden. What's more, its floating nature, almost as if it were a piece of furniture set in place, allows for a subtle dialogue with the house.
